CPU News: Cloud Portal Upgrade

Posted on June 15, 2012

We would like to announce that we will be upgrading Cloud Portal. The update will happen on Thursday the 21st of June in the morning, between 7:00 and 9:00 AM (Central European time). This update will not affect your running cloud servers; however, please note that during the upgrade you will not be able to use Cloud Portal. If you have an urgent matter during that time, please contact support.

The new Cloud Portal will be offering a few new features and improvements. Find out what they are in the list below:

1. Dashboard

After logging in, you will be presented with the new dashboard page. The dashboard gives you a quick overview of your cloud servers, the costs of the current month, and the latest news from Cloud Provider. In the future, we will add additional information like the status/performance of your servers and quick access to our knowledgebase.

2. Resource pools

Cloud Provider used to charge server capacity by-the-hour only. A few clients told us that they prefer to buy a certain amount of server resources for a fixed price per month. Which is why we are introducing resource pools in this new version.

Each resource pool contains a set amount of CPU cores, memory, and disk space -within this pool you can create, re-size, and delete servers as you like, without having to worry about the monthly costs. Cloud Portal will show you how much you have used of your resource pool at any time. If needed, you’ll be able to upgrade to a larger resource pool or downgrade to a smaller one at any time.

3. Better performance using VirtIO

With this new update, we’re introducing new server images using VirtIO technology. VirtIO is a faster virtualization driver that optimizes both the access to the disk and the network, resulting in a better performance for your server.

A couple of other improvements include:

- The root password of your server in the portal is now hidden by default.

- A PTR record will now be set for all IP addresses for your server. In the current version this was only done for the main IP address of the server.

Last but not least, this update will allow us to deploy more exciting new features in the future. If you have any questions regarding this update, please don’t hesitate and give us a call or send an e-mail to support.

Thank you for your understanding.
